Choosing a Double Pram and Pushchair
A well-designed double pram or pushchair can simplify the lives of families, especially on busy streets or in the shops and stores. Find a model that has generous storage space for stowing nappies, snacks and other essentials.
Some parents who are first-time parents choose an infant pushchair that can be used as a single pram when baby is born, and later changed into a twin mode after the baby is old enough. Joolz offers a range of options.
Tandem
The news that you're about to have the birth of a child is one of the most exciting events in life. When the excitement wears off and the reality of the situation sets in, you'll have to make a number of decisions regarding how you can prepare your family. One of the most important things to consider is choosing the right pram or pushchair.
Tandem prams, also referred as "in-line" double prams are a classic design that has two seats or bassinets placed side-by-side. The front seat, which is typically cushioned, reclines flat and is suitable for babies. The second seat is upright and is designed to accommodate toddlers as young as three years. Some models come with seats that can be reversible, so you can decide if your children face each other or look out at you. Many tandems can be made into one pushchair when your oldest child is no longer using the second seat.
A tandem is less expensive than a twin pram and is a great option for parents looking to save money, but without losing safety or function. A tandem can be a bit heavy and difficult to steer, particularly when negotiating curbs. It is also less stable than twin prams especially when a bigger child is seated in the front. A tandem can also be difficult to transport on public transport and can be difficult to maneuver on narrow roads.
The iCandy Peach, a popular model that is focused on image, is an excellent alternative for parents with one child who want an elegant appearance. However the tandem mode makes it feel long and heavy to push. It features an innovative frame that expands in width to accommodate the second seat, and it is compatible with many combinations of buggy seats, carrycots and car seats (two at a time or in separate). The iCandy Wave is another lightweight tandem option that's simple to use and compatible with a range of car seats and carrycots.
Side by side
When it comes time to choose a double pram or pushchair there's a lot to consider. Whether you're buying for twins or siblings close in age, there are a number of configuration options to consider. Tandem prams, also referred to as side-by-side prams are popular choices due to the fact that they can be set up in a way that the infant can sit in the bassinet on top while the toddler or older child is sitting in the second chair.
Some models even feature reversible seats, which means you can modify the seating to your family's requirements throughout the toddler and baby years. This allows you to keep your children in sight at all times and also gives them a chance to get to know each other while they walk.

Tandem prams can be jogging buggies or all-terrain buggies. They are ideal for outdoor excursions, such as to the park. look at this now for narrow aisles and checkouts in shops and supermarkets because they are more compact.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 pram, for example can be used in tandem mode right from birth, with the addition of an rumble seat. ( twin pushchair ) When your child grows out of the rumble chair you can change to one pram mode. You can also choose to use the adaptors for car capsules to transform it from a newborn to toddler travel system.
Another alternative is the Side by Side Pram from Babybee. This side-by-side double pram is available in a variety of colors and comes with an elegant modern design. The design is intended to be used right from the moment of birth, you can choose to add the LUNA newborn cocoon (PS262) or the LUNA infant seats (PS53 each) to ensure your baby is secure and comfortable.
The Egg 2 is a stylish elegant pushchair that can be transformed into a double side by side. It is available in a variety of carrycots and infant seats to accommodate twins or siblings of different age groups. It's also incredibly easy to collapse. It's also relatively lightweight, which makes it an ideal choice for families who have small cars or only a little storage space.
Convertible
The top double prams and pushchairs are versatile and some are able to change into different seating configurations to meet your family's changing needs. You can accommodate up to three children on the seat board or two toddlers in the seats, and still have room for a shopping bag. Accessories like rain covers are also available. Convertible double strollers tend to be heavier and larger than single pushchairs, as they have to hold two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow is one example of a convertible that is affordable that is user-friendly, however our testers thought it was a little heavy for its price.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2, have a carrycot option which is suitable for babies. This allows the double stroller to be compacted and reduced in size when not being used. Our test subjects were awed by the City Select's clever one-handed fold, though it takes some practice. It's also quite agile and responsive, despite being bigger than other double strollers.
Another option that is reasonably priced is an affordable option is the Cybex Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller. It converts from a parent-facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler seat and the bassinet-style mode is a great option for infants (although remember that babies under four months old shouldn't sleep in strollers because of the risk of positional asphyxia).
For greater flexibility, opt for a dual-mode convertible such as the iCandy Peach. It's a slim double stroller that can hold two children in a tandem. It can also be used to make a tandem by incorporating a second seat kit. It's responsive and agile, and our testers liked its sleek design. It's not quite as lightweight like some of the other models on our list however it does come with a huge basket that is useful for parents carrying bags filled with toys and other items.
Lightweight
Some parents prefer to secure their double buggy if they have one child and are expecting another, so a convertible option is a good option. The iCandy Peach can be converted from a single pushchair to a double with the addition of a toddler's seat, or the brand's carrycot (which is ideal to sleep at night). The seats are extremely comfortable and our testers love that they can be reclined in multiple positions. They also love the feature that the canopy comes with an open window that can be seen from afar and has UPF 50+ protection. The rear seat can be raised so that the child who is older can stand on it to reach the shopping basket.
The only drawback of the iCandy Peach is that it is quite heavy, but Cher felt it was balanced by the ease to manoeuvre and how spacious the storage is with two hanging parent and child cup holders, seat-back pockets and a large underseat storage basket. Cher also appreciated that seats can be flipped so that they face each other, which is perfect for siblings who love to chat and have conversations when out and out and about.
The Delta Children LX Side-by-Side Stroller is a less heavy option, but still impressive. It weighs only 18 pounds, is compact, and has self-standing fold, making it easy to transport or put in your trunk. Parents love the quality of materials and workmanship, and the cost. The only downside is that the seats don't recline as far as some other models we've tested, and the rear seat isn't as well-lit due to its positioning that is higher than the front seat.
Another popular choice is the Joolz Geo 3, which is slim and sleek. It is also easy to steer, with an attractive design and lifetime guarantee. It is important to remember that, despite their slimmer design side by side prams are wider than tandem and in-line doubles. They can be tricky to navigate on crowded footpaths or in shops. However, they're generally shorter too, so can be more maneuverable in tight spaces than tandems.
